That’s right! Christian Missions in Africa is doing very well without showy equipment and without a university-trained Americans.
How? simple! With native-born Africans doing what they do best: sharing the gospel with their fellow countrymen.
Who’s coaching them? Lots of organizations. The one I’ll point out today is Worldlink International Ministries (www.WorldlinkOnline.org). In fact, let’s start off with an introduction from the founder, Jack Nelson.
“I saw many brothers and sisters who would love to reply to God’s call to ministry, but who could not for the lack of resources. All they need are a few dollars a day to help themselves and their families, a bicycle, some books, or some of the spiritual development materials that are plentiful in other parts of God’s world. During this time, the Lord birthed an idea that wouldn’t go away. Someone needed to be a LINK between those who wanted to serve and those who could help them.” – Jack Nelson, 2002
Prior to starting Worldlink in 2002, Jack spent 10 years Touring throughout the world as a speaker and trainer with Scripture Union. Time and time again Jack met gifted, called, and committed Christians wanting to serve the Lord in their own circumstances but struggling to meet their basic needs. The Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ hindered by no more than one, two, or even three dollars a day — this unsettling fact stayed with Jack. It took root in his soul, and with the call of the Holy Spirit (and his wife’s gentle prodding), he stepped out in faith to form the LINK that was needed.
Jack was joined by a team who were also encouraged by the possibilities of this vision.
Over the next few years the LINK moved from vision to reality as you’ll see in these highlights:
2002 – Worldlink founded. First international partners received funds (Latin America and Liberia).
2005 – Africa expansion. 15 new partners added. Office staff expanded with the addition of Peter and Becky Bowersox.
2006 – First Asian partnerships launched. Latin America and Africa Regions continued to expand in scope of ministries.
2007 – Asia expansion. Significant new partners in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Indonesia. Prayerlink email became our voice to supporters.
2008 – Rev. Olaniyi Daramola became the Africa Coordinator, increasing our enthusiasm for this program: Christian Missions Africa.
2009 – Worldlink established three areas of strategic emphasis (India, Congo, Nigeria).
2010 – New website!
All of this adds up to help the Worldlink mission: Worldlink exists to unleash and support trained local evangelists and church planters in the world’s most challenging areas to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
